The iF DESIGN AWARD has been presented since 1953 and is internationally recognized as a seal of quality for excellent design. TRUMPF and Centigrade were honored with the coveted award in the Communications Design category for the cross-machine interface “Touchpoint”. They had previously also received the Red Dot Design Award. On March 10, the winners of the design prize were honored at BMW Welt in Munich.

A holistic product experience with Touchpoint

The completely redesigned interface of Touchpoint is derived from the product design of the machine tools and thus creates a holistic product experience. The machine and Touchpoint form one unit. The interface impresses not only with its new design, but also with optimized operation. It is intuitively designed and gives machine operators immediate feedback on their actions. In addition, gestures such as pinch-to-zoom, familiar from smartphones and tablets, make the control of heavy machine tools simple and familiar. Touchpoint Red Dot win by Centigrade and TRUMPF

What especially distinguishes Touchpoint is its wide applicability: in different adaptations it is used on machine types that differ functionally, such as the new TruLaser Center 7030 and the TruBend Series 5000. At the same time, it maintains a consistent information architecture, visual design, and interaction concept.

International competition at the iF DESIGN AWARD

This year, 5,575 submissions from 59 countries were entered into the competition. That made the award even more hotly contested than in previous years. Participation in the Service Design/UX category alone rose by 18% this year. The submitted products and solutions were evaluated and awarded by an internationally renowned expert jury.
