Into the hamster wheel!
Students develop game for moving more while working
Walk While Work – a human-centered motion game for the socializer user type
Rethinking the literal hamster wheel in a real sense – that's what a group of students at Saarland University set out to do as part of a UX & Gamification seminar conducted by Centigrade and the DFKI. For this, the students went through the Continuous UX process toolbox from analysing user needs to developing a prototypical MVP. In collaboration with Centigrade, they tested their approach in our FasterHorses Experience Lab in order to find out how to motivate people where the “Socializer” player type is pre-dominant to move more at work.
The MVP prototype is a browser game that can be played collaboratively while working, along with a motorless Walkolution treadmill and an IoT step tracker developed by Centigrade. In the game, users get the opportunity to run together in a large virtual hamster wheel during as a warmup or cooldown of their everyday work meetings. The goal is to drive the hamster wheel together and thus generate joint energy.
