Bitkom Yearbook Digital Design 2025 published – Centigrade CEO Thomas Immich among the contributors
Bitkom has published the Yearbook Digital Design 2025. Under the title “Whoever Designs, Leads! – Digital Design in the Structural Transformation of the AI Era”, the publication brings together 15 expert articles addressing a central question from critical, practical and transformative perspectives: What role does digital design play in a world where artificial intelligence is taking over an ever-larger share of software development?
The yearbook’s central argument: In the AI era, the strategic bottleneck will no longer be writing code, but the holistic design of digital solutions. Design is therefore not a downstream discipline, but the decisive factor in whether technologically powerful systems actually deliver value.
The contributions examine, among other things, how AI tools tend to confirm existing assumptions rather than challenge them, why conceptual competence in software engineering is often underestimated, and what new forms of human-machine collaboration need to emerge.
Thomas Immich featured as contributing author
Our CEO Thomas Immich contributed the article “GovTech, Digital Design and the ‘Lessons not Learned'”. In it, he takes a critical look at why the GovTech sector keeps repeating the same mistakes despite growing investment – reaching for technology-driven solutions before the actual needs of the people involved are understood. He sums up his conclusion in one sentence:
“Even the most impressive special fund will fizzle out if it misses the actual needs of the people it is meant to serve.”
What this means in concrete terms for the role of digital design and UX professionals in the public sector, and the path forward that Thomas Immich outlines, will be explored in a dedicated blog post.
